Major depression is among the most common of all clinical problems in primary care.  In 65% of all case, depression is treated successfully by antidepressant medications and/or psychotherapy.  The success rate is more than 80% when psychotherapy and medication are combined.

  • Behavioral disorders affect a full 22% of the adult population.
  • Approximately 5 million people suffer from severe mental health disorders, including manic depression, schizophrenia, and severe forms of depression.
  • Approximately 11% of children aged 9 to 17 years of age experience serious emotional disturbances with 5% to 9% of this age group experiencing "extreme" functional impairment.
  • Today, the highest rate of suicide is found in older males.
